Preserving childhood in our modern world.
Preserving childhood in our modern world.
At Honey Bee Schoolhouse, we offer more for the young child. Preserving childhood is the focus of the home-based program. With a very small, intimate setting, each child in care is valued and loved. Their unique talents and interests are embraced and encouraged. Children are a blessing and should be treated as such, and this belief is at the core of why the program began- a dream that started back in 2012. While modern day preschools and daycares strive to quickly train a child for Kindergarten, our program focuses on slowing down and letting the child be a child. We believe that the first years of a child’s life shouldn’t be stressful or rigorous, but rather filled with opportunities to wonder, play, create, learn, and thrive at the pace that’s unique for them. Children here have unhurried time to play, get messy, explore art their way, sit in the grass and bask in the sunshine, and ask questions in a meaningful environment. The first 5 years of life sets the stage for the entirety of an adult human being’s existence. Early Childhood is the starting point for a lifetime of loving learning.
Our play-based method is inspired by the studies of hunter-gather societies and the Reggio Emilia Approach, which aims to foster the child’s natural ability to love learning when in a supporting environment that provokes curiosity. The program treats children as active participants in their education and their interest
Preparing for Kindergarten can be done without a rigorous preschool program, although some parents with children 3 years old and up prefer to leave Honey Bee Schoolhouse and enroll their child in a more rigorous academic program. Whatever the choice or preference may be, we do our best to support your child’s path.
Here are the concepts that a child is expected to know before entering Kindergarten (5 years old on or before August 15th):

Honey Bee Schoolhouse offers the healthiest foods you will find at any childcare facility. We focus on whole food: lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, cheese, nuts, seeds, whole milk, and healthier snacks. Everything is organic if possible, fresh, and nutritious. We stay away from added sugar and artificial colors. Our water is filtered with a high quality filtration system that ensures protection from heavy metals and other harmful chemicals.
Time outside in all 4 seasons is encouraged. Children keep snowsuits and rainsuits and boots at childcare to encourage outside activity in all weather conditions.
Honey Bee Schoolhouse is protected from EMF radiation using EarthCalm’s whole home protection system.
Erica has been passionate about alternative early education since 2010. She began her career in High School, where she was dual enrolled with a Teenage Parent Program. It was there that her love for young children began and where she received many of her credentials to work in the field of Early Childhood Ed. She happily worked in 3 highly esteemed Preschools for about 7 years.
Upon graduation from the University of Central Florida, Erica opened her licensed in home childcare business. It wasn’t long after opening that she became pregnant with her first child. She made a difficult decision to temporarily close Honey Bee to focus on her daughter. She ended up quickly having two more children and stayed home with them for a total of 7 years. During that time, she stayed involved with caring for others by babysitting children in the neighborhood.
In 2024, using the 7 years of professional experience and the additional 7 years of mothering experience, Erica re-opened Honey Bee Schoolhouse to create a dynamic program for other parents in the community. She feels that her experience both working in child care facilities and being a parent to three young children has given her a greater understanding of what families need: meaningful community.
Erica also has a passion for naturopathy and art therapy. In her free time she enjoys thrifting, painting, and hiking at Old Stone Fort. Her goal is to provide a private, affordable school for children through high school to be self directed learners.
